Whistler, BC March 21, 2003 - The Garnier Fructis World Skiing Invitational Design Team of the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival has just finalised the invitations to the 2003 event set to take place April 18 & 19, at Whistler Blackcomb.

The Garnier Fructis World Skiing Invitational invites the best freeskiers in the world to compete for $50,000 in the Salomon Superpipe and Salomon Big Air. Among the skiers toping this year's Invitational list are: Tanner Hall (2002 WSI Big Air Champion, 2003 World Superpipe Champion), Candide Thovex (2003 X-Games Superpipe Champion), Jordan Monk (2002 WSI Superpipe Champion) and Sarah Burke (Top female freeskier, 2nd 2003 US Open Superpipe).

The night-time Salomon Big Air event, fused with multiple DJs and MCs, brings intensified action to the base of Whistler Mountain, making it one of the Festival's biggest attractions. This year's crowd is expected to exceed 15,000 as the best big air skiers in the world battle it out for the Salomon Big Air title and their share of the $20,000 prize money in this grand finale of the world's competitive ski season.

The Salomon Superpipe takes place in Blackcomb Mountain's famed terrain park in a pipe that is consistently ranked one of the top competition pipes in the world. The pipe competition - featuring 30 male skiers and 10 female skiers competing in a unique Jam Format - will deliver non-stop action. The competition is a favourite format of competing athletes, as it allows them to relax and perform to their maximum potential. A total of $25,000 cash will be awarded to the winners of the men & women's Salomon Superpipe Finals. The Salomon Superpipe competition also features a skier-judged SuperHit Contest where the skier that throws down the best hit will walk away with $5,000 cash.

Athletes are invited based on their results from the season's most prestigious events including the X-Games, the US Freeskiing Open, the World Superpipe Championship and last year's World Skiing Invitational.
