Park City, UT, Jan. 17, 2002-- Alan Alborn of Anchorage, AK, who has produced the best World Cup results for the U.S. in more than a decade, and four others jumpers, including three teenagers, have been nominated to the 2002 Olympic Team, the U.S. Ski Team announced Thursday.

Alborn, 21, whose fourth-place finish in Germany last month and two other top-10s are the best showing since Mike Holland's four top-10s in 1989, will be competing in his second Olympics. He is a two-time U.S. champion and stands 15th in the current World Cup rankings despite missing five jumping meets.

Selection was based on international results, according to U.S. Head Coach Kari Ylianttila. With an average age of 19, this is the youngest Olympic jumping team, slightly younger than the 1998 team (average age: 19.4).

Also nominated to the Olympic Team are three jumpers from Steamboat Springs, Colo. -- Brendan Doran, 22, a 1998 Olympian; Clint Jones, 17, and Tommy Schwall, 18 -- and Brian Welch, 17 of Scarborough, Maine. Jones, Schwall and Welch will head to the Olympics after competing Jan. 23-27 at the World Nordic Junior Championships in Schonach, Germany.
