Schlopy, Puckett Break Top-10 in Kitz

Kitzbuehl, Austria, Jan. 21, 2001--Erik Schlopy (Park City, Utah) recorded his best World Cup slalom finish of the season finishing ninth,while Paul Casey Puckett (Aspen, CO) added a fourth in combined as the biggest weekend of the World Cup season closed in KitzbuehelSunday.

Austrian Benjamin Raich won in 1:39.79 over Slovenia's Jure Kosir in 1:40.11. Hans-Petter Buraas of Norway was third. First-run leader,Austrian Heinz Schilchegger, went out near the bottom of the second run, further dropping the early-season slalom leader out of the titlehunt with his second-straight DNF.

After five top-10's in giant slalom this season, Schlopy picked up his first top-10 slalom of the season, finishing in 1:41.32. The finishedmoved him into 13th place in the men's overall World Cup standings.

Puckett took a 37th in Saturday's downhill and parlayed it into a fourth in combined, behind winner Lasse Kjus of Norway.

The men's slalom circuit now heads to nearby Schladming for a night slalom Tuesday. The speed side heads to Garmisch-Partenkirchen,Germany for a downhill-super G next weekend.

The World Alpine Ski Championships in St. Anton open Jan. 30 for the men with the super G.
