Women Train in Mammoth Sun

Mammoth Mountain, CA, May 20, 2001--The U.S. Women's Alpine Ski Team continued their on-snow training camp Sunday in warm and sunny conditions at Mammoth Mountain.

For the second day in a row, temperatures peaked near 70 degrees around lunchtime. The coaches and athletes start training around 8 a.m. in order to take advantage of the harder snow conditions as the snow re-freezes overnight.

Most members of the Team warmed up with some free skiing before training giant slalom on the Fascination run. Slalom standout Sarah Schleper (Vail, CO) tested different skis.

The A Team speed skiers, which includes Kirsten Clark (Raymond, ME), Katie Monahan (Aspen, CO) and Picabo Street (Park City, UT) participated in directed free skiing until about 11:30 a.m.

Other athletes training at Mammoth include Lindsey C. Kildow (Vail, CO), Julia Mancuso (Tahoe City, CA), Hilary McCloy (Waitsfield, VT) and Tatum Skoglund (Bellevue, WA). Members of the development squad are also at Mammoth.
