There are a number of sanctioned and unsanctioned records. The current record is said to be 156 mph by Simone Origone. If that doesn't impress you, how about the blind skier speed record of 101 mph? Olympic and World Cup downhillers regularly hit more than 80 mph on the fastest courses. Recreational skiers tend to live in the 20 mph range. If you're a casual skier and hitting 30 mph, you're rocking. And, naturally, wear a helmet.
