Cornering techniques, skiers vs bikers?

Cornering techniques, skiers vs bikers?

Hello!

I'm one of those persons that if I can't understand some things, some of them can't leave my mind until I do understand it! And this is one of those damn things:

Why don't skiers and bikers have the same hip position while cornering?

Look at those pictures:

Skiers have their hip below the line of their shins and bikers have it above.

I do understand that it would suck to use the ski technique on a bike because it would be a awkward rotation in the upper body to hold on to the bar plus some under reasons, but why dont the skiers use the bikers technique? =)

Please explain it for me! =)

When comparing the two sports, think about where the pressure has to be exerted to initiate a turn. Once you notice that the spread of weight in cycling involves a greater degree of upper body pressure (on the bars), the difference of technique makes sense.

to add to the above...Speed and where it comes from. The skier will get speed after going around the gate due to the slope of the hill. The mountain biker, and all cyclists can not produce any power to right themselves when they are that low to the ground. I have tried this once and my pedal hit the ground and I crashed. However, when you looked at superbike races their hips are much and knees are touching the ground. How?? they get enough speed to right themselves from the motorcycles engine.

If you use your upper body to counter balance your lower body angles, it's similar to mountain biking or motocross riding. If you counter act your upper body to the rotation of the arc you are doing what the Super Bike riders do they counter pressure the bars to initiate the turn.
