We're just one month away from releasing our 2013 Buyers Guide with the results of our annual ski and boot tests. Consistently regarded as the best in the industry, our test puts 137 skis and 96 boots through the wringer. Only 119 products performed well enough to earn a coveted SKI Magazine Gold Medal. Over the next four weeks, we'll introduce you to a few of them.
Here are two of the top performers in the narrow boot (97 mm–99 mm) category. We'll preview the medium and wide categories in the next two weeks. SKI's annual Buyers Guide is available in print and online in late September.

Dalbello, KR Two Pro (above left) A shell makeover brings this three-piece design closer to the standout performance of Dalbello's overlap Scorpion. With a more precise fit and better accuracy, it gains some racelike performance without sacrificing off-piste fun. A lower ramp and more upright cuff promote a more athletic starting position. "Balanced and natural feeling." MSRP: $850 |
Salomon X-Max 130 (above right) The new 360 Custom Shell shape has a more deeply seated heel, which adds room to its fit. That raised a question: Downsize? Each tester skied his regular size, and everyone agreed it was comfortably cruisey. Then several downsized into heat-customized shells, which performed to even higher acclaim. "I could feel every ripple beneath my foot." MSRP: $875 |
