2012 Season Opener, Portillo, Chile

In combination with South America's best snow-making capabilities, the nearly two feet of new snow that fell on the high Andean peaks above Santiago, Chile, have the folks at Portillo giddy with excitement for the ski season, which opens this weekend. Can you blame us for hanging on every press release and living vicariously through each blue-sky-and-white-blanket-of-snow photo that comes across the wire?

If you, like us, are still lamenting the dismal 2011-2012 ski season, just stop. It isn't over. In fact, it's just beginning south of the equator. We have plans to tour Portillo and a few other southern gems this summer, so stay tuned to and SKI for more. Better yet, book yourself a flight to Santiago, Chile, and pack those skis for some sweet redemption. Need a little push? Click here, then visit for a list of programs, camps and weeklong experiences on tap for this summer.
