Ligety snags prestigious Adelboden victory; McKennis grabs first win at age 23.

U.S. Ski Team ace Ted Ligety continues to have the best season of his career, moving into third place in the overall standings with wins in both GS and slalom at Adelboden, Switzerland. It was another weekend of great results for the U.S. Team:

- Ligety added his first win at the prestigious Adelboden venue when overall points leader Marcel Hirscher of Austria made a big mistake near the bottom of his second run. Ligety was 11th in Sunday’s slalom, in which teammate David Choudunsky was 10th.

- In women’s action, 23-year-old Glenwood Springs, Colo., native Alice McKennis notched the first win of her promising career in Saturday’s downhill at St. Anton, Austria. The U.S. team, which easily leads the women’s downhill standings, put three in the top six and five in the top 15. Lindsey Vonn returned to action after a long holiday break with a sixth-place finish, just behind teammate Laurenne Ross. In Sunday’s super G, Vonn was fourth, a full second off the pace of winner Tina Maze of Slovenia. Mancuso was sixth.

Ligety looks increasingly hard to catch for this year’s GS title, with 460 points to Hirscher’s 335. Hirscher, who won Sunday’s slalom, still leads the overall with 855 points. Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal is second (729); Ligety third (676). Vonn still leads the women’s downhill and super G standings with 240 and 250 points, respectively. American Stacy Cook is second (195 points) in downhill, and Mancuso is third (180) in Super G. Vonn slips to fifth place in the overall standings, where Maze looks increasingly unbeatable for the 2013 title.
