A Skier's Life List 2012

A Skier's Life List 2012

Twenty-seven things every skier should do before he hangs up his boards
posted: 10/10/2012
2014 No.1 Jackson Hole

Every few years, we put our heads together and compile a list of all the places we'd go and things we'd do if we had the time, the money, and, well, the guts to just go for it. Herewith, our top 27—in no particular order—and links to the stories we've written about them. As we close in on another ski season, we look forward to checking a few more off the list. We hope you will too. Happy skiing.

1. Go heli-skiing. Wonder if you're good enough? Wonder what it takes?

2. Date a ski patroller

3. Introduce a friend or child to the sport

4. Invest in mountain property

5. Skin to a 10th Mountain Division hut

6. Ski-bum for a season

7. Snag first tram at Jackson Hole on a powder day

8. Summer Ski in South America: Chile or Argentina

9. Ski Chamonix

10. Eat raclette in Switzerland

11. Watch the Hahnenkamm

12. Call in sick on a powder day

13. Chase a storm

14. Ski Japan

15. Add a frontside carver to your quiver and learn how to use it

16. Watch a Winter Olympics…in person

17. Set up a basement ski-tuning bench—and use it

18. Dance in ski boots at the Krazy Kangaruh in St. Anton

19. Ski every day for a month

20. Slide a rail

21. Do it in a gondola

22. Drink a pisco sour at Tio Bob’s in Portillo

23. Win a Nastar gold medal

24. Stay a night at the Timberline Lodge

25. Ski The Midwest

26. Cat ski with strangers

27. Go night skiing—right after a ski day

reviews of A Skier's Life List 2012
I've stood on a mountain top, looking at Holy Cross, Blackcomb, Werner, whatever, with flakes falling from the sky, and dropped downhill into powder through silent aspens and pines. For anyone who's done the same, their list is done.
