 It was a risky move, one that soured many locals on their hometown hill. But when Taos opened its slopes to snowboarders four years ago this month, little did it know it would see skier—and boarder—visits climb to their highest numbers in a decade. The Denver Post sorts through the issue in depth here. But this prompts the question: Will Alta, Deer Valley and Mad River Glen, the last three holdouts in the country, succumb? From a business perspective, how could they not? But as skiers, do we secretly hope they hold the line? You bet.
