Playful, colorful Vermont-made winter hats, balaclavas and bandanas

Corinne Prevot, a high school downhill racer was searching for a fun and functional ski hat when she took up Nordic skiing. Unsuccessful, she started making her own for classmates and teammates at Vermont’s Burke Mountain Academy, as well as for family and friends. She toted hats, balaclavas, and bandanas to races all around the country, selling them out of the back of her car and turning Skida from a kitchen table project into an apparel company.

Now, a senior at Vermont’s Middlebury College, she’s running Skida out of her dorm room while she completes a joint degree in Geography and Sociology. In 2011, Prevot was recognized by Forbes Magazine as a distinguished student entrepreneur. And thanks to her low overhead and slow and steady growth, she is funding Skida through hat and neck gaiter sales.

Skida products are fun and colorful accessories that in a world of blue, black, and red fleece headbands shows your style. Skida’s runs are small, and the prints eclectic. Each pattern the company offers is limited edition. So, many of Skida's customers become collectors. The product is well made–hand crafted in Vermont’s North East Kingdom by people who are proud of their work.

The Alpine hat is fully fleece-lined, the bandanas have generous strips of Velcro for adjustability, and all Skida products have high quality stitching. Available in 80 retail outlets across the US, Canada, Nepal, and France, as well as online. Available now, $16-$36, shopskida.com.
