Aspen/Snowmass, Colo. — Aspen/Snowmass will be served by three major airlines this winter and air service increases by 13 percent in total seat capacity from mid-December into April for a total of 150 flights per week including nonstop service to Aspen from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix, Denver, Minneapolis and Memphis. Plus, United Airlines will expand to 102 flights per week - an increase of 23 percent from last winter's schedule of 82 flights. This increase in options to get to Aspen/Snowmass directly makes the most seats available since the record breaking 1997/1998 season
"Just three miles from Aspen and six miles from Snowmass Village, the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport is the most conveniently located ski resort airport in the world, said David Perry, senior vice president, Aspen Skiing Company. "The increased air service and great rates on packages make Aspen/Snowmass even more accessible from across the country and around the world.
From Dec. 13, 2002, to April 6, 2003, United Express will be operating 14 daily flights in and out of Aspen including 12 from Denver, one from Los Angeles and the new daily nonstop flight from San Francisco. On the weekends, United Express has added two extra flights from Denver for a total of 16 daily flights each way on Saturdays and Sundays.
"Not only will the capacity increases alone help build traffic this winter, but the timing of these flights will allow connections from our most popular markets at practically any time of day, said Bill Tomcich, president of Stay Aspen Snowmass, central reservations agency for Aspen/Snowmass.
In addition to United's expanded flight schedule, Northwest Airlines will boost its daily service between Aspen and Memphis this winter. Northwest offered a daily connection to Memphis during just February and March last winter. Service will begin Dec. 18. Additionally, from Dec. 18 to April 5, Northwest's winter service between Aspen and Minneapolis will operate twice daily plus a third flight on Saturdays and Sundays.
America West Express has increased the one daily flight operating from Phoenix to two daily flights year-round starting Oct. 27 and may consider adding additional winter flights if bookings are strong and consistent.
American Airlines has added new, nonstop 757 service between the Eagle County Airport and Los Angeles four days a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays). Eagle County Airport is only an hour-and-fifteen-minute scenic drive to Aspen/Snowmass with no mountain passes to cross. Daily, direct shuttles from Eagle are available.
