Beaver Creek Adds Two New Lifts

Beaver Creek, Colo. Aug. 20, 2004 - A helicopter arrived in Beaver Creek and Bachelor Gulch yesterday to aid in the process of pouring concrete for the tower bases of two new chairlifts to be installed at Beaver Creek for the winter season. Helicopter operations began today and work is expected to continue for roughly 10 consecutive days. The helicopter is not scheduled to operate on Sundays.

Helicopter operations are staged on the mountain in the resort's Strawberry Park area. A helicopter will return to the area later this fall to install lift towers for the new lifts.

The two new chairlifts are part of Beaver Creek Landing, an alternative entry point for Beaver Creek Mountain scheduled to open Dec. 18, 2004. The new lift system is designed to enhance the resort's village-to-village ski and snowboard experience, improve skier and rider circulation on the mountain and provide convenient and fast alternative access for intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders to the expert Talons terrain and Beaver Creek Mountain. Guests will be able to reach the main mountain from Beaver Creek Village or Beaver Creek Landing. Beginner skiers and riders and those taking ski and snowboard school lessons must access the main mountain from Beaver Creek Village.

Lower Beaver Creek Mountain Express Lift will rise from Beaver Creek Landing on Prater Lane in Avon and will connect with a second lift, Upper Beaver Creek Mountain Express Lift, running from an area in Bachelor Gulch to the top of Strawberry Park. Guests will then be able to ski or snowboard from Strawberry Park to the Talons terrain and Beaver Creek Mountain via an expanded skiway. At the end of the day, lift users will be able to ride a shuttle from Beaver Creek Village or ski or ride back to their parked vehicles.

The Beaver Creek Landing project also includes plans for enhanced shuttle transportation service, plus the construction of a temporary lift ticket office and a new 500-space free parking lot--Wolf Lot--situated above the existing Bear Lot (formerly West Lot) along Highway 6 in Avon.
