For the past 36 years, during the frigid cold of the last 10 days in January, Stowe Mountain Resort has put on an exciting festival full of activities and competitions. The Kids Karnival, “Stowolympics”, Ice Carving demonstrations, Warren Miller movie night, ski races, Snowgolf tournament, and Snowvolleyball are activities for all ages to enjoy. For the older set, enjoy the Peak Party at the Matterhorn and the Bartenders Winter Challenge. After all, Jagermeister is an event sponsor.
This indoor skating rink has open-air sides, so you can enjoy the benefits of a heated lobby and protective roof, with the feel of an outdoor rink. Meet friends during free skate, or enjoy more aggressive rink time with the puck. Skate rentals and sharpening are available.
The Ben and Jerry’s headquarters is located just 20 minutes down the road from Stowe. Beat the late winter blues with the Waterbury-based factory’s Winter Festival every March. Play fun games, check out snow sculptures, listen to great music, sample Cabot cheeses, and drink Green Mountain coffee. Take a free factory tour and try winter flavors like Vermont Snowball and Minter Wonderland created especially for the event. Admission is free, though a non-perishable food item for the Waterbury food shelf is requested. Can’t make it to the festival?
Hot apple cider, local wine, and fresh fudge made under one roof.
Watch apple cider made the old-fashioned way. Cold Hollow Cider Mill uses a rack and cloth press built in the 1920s to make cider year-round. Watch the process from behind a glass wall, and sample fresh cider, cider jellies, mustards, applesauce, cider donuts, cheddar cheeses, and fudge in the retail store. Be sure to walk across the driveway to the Apple Core gift shop, home to a toy hub, fudge factory, and winery. Free tours run daily.
