Big Sky, MT, Oct. 16, 2000--Following a big snowstorm dropping over three feet of natural snow Big Sky Resort decided to open its terrain at noon today, six weeks ahead of schedule and the earliest in the resort's 30-year history.

Mother Nature beat Big Sky snowmaking operators to the punch as entirely natural snow covered all of the open terrain. This Monday and Tuesday the Gondola will carry skiers up Lone Peak to access Lower Morning Star and Mr. K, about 1,500 feet of Big Sky's 4,350 vertical feet. The Lone Peak Triple chair starts up on Saturday giving skiers another 800 vertical feet to ski down in the bowl. There the terrain will be open on Saturdays and Sundays until further notice.

Farther west, Boreal Mountain Resort suspended operations on Saturday, Oct. 14 until more snow falls from the sky or can be made. Let's not forget that Timberline Ski Area in Oregon is also on the list of open areas. Timberline practically runs year-round with a short break for lift-maintenance from Sept. 4-18 this year.

Lift tickets for Big Sky cost $20 during this first week and nothing for season pass holders. For more information call 406-995-5900 or visit www.bigskyresort.com/frames.asp?main=8&sub=16
