Ski goggles are so useful. They keep snow out of our eyes as we schuss down the mountain, they dim the sun on overbright bluebird days and keep our corneas healthy, and modern polarized lenses can even improve our vision. Plus, when combined with a nice black balaclava, goggles also make a pretty great getup for robbing the local Gas n' Sip. A man wearing just such an outfit

If you're reading this Web site, you like skiing. You like skiing with friends. You'd probably also like to ski with someone who's more than a friend. But have you found that person? Trust us: They're not always easy to come by. You like gnarly steeps, they like baby groomers. You're first in the liftline, they're still at après after 8 a.m. You're a skier, they like that other snow-based sport you don't even like to mention. And now that yelling "Single!" in the liftline has fallen

Teton Pass Ski Area, a 26-trail operation in the Montana Rockies, will see its two lifts grind to halt this winter if new buyers aren't found. The resort has been on the market for the past few years at the asking price of $279,000. A lucky buyer inherits a 1,1010-foot vertical drop across 114 acres, with 3,400 skier visits tallied last season. A fine community hill. And with upwards of 250 inches of average annual snowfall, we see plenty of potential here, indeed. It just needs a

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the U.S. is approaching a "longevity revolution." People are living longer, and by the year 2030, the elderly population is expected to surpass 70 million. Sure, longevity is generally considered a good thing, so long as quantity of life is matched by quality. In his new book Second Wind: Rise of the Ageless Ahlete

During these hard days, it's tempting to reimagine one's life. What if you just chucked it all -- the mortgage, the debt, the credit cards -- and went full ski-bum? We're talking sleep-in-the-truck, cold-oatmeal-for-breakfast, shower-at-the-Y ski bum. Scamming free waxes from your buddies at the shop, working tables at the local brewski hall, full-moon turns at midnight on the ridge at season's end. Maybe you'd get a dog, too, a nice big lab who liked to ride the lifts with you. From

When some of us SKI Magazine folks were kids, we weren't exactly model students. If there was a chance to play hooky and hit the ski hill, you can bet we took it. (Not that we're recommending that as a career-advancement strategy for you aspiring ski journalists out there -- we're just saying.) So when we hear about programs like the following, we become convinced that we were born too soon. Moonlight

Even the best of us get a little rusty after a summer spent lounging by the pool. But it's nothing a week at Killington's Tune Up camp can't fix. The five-hour-per-day, on-snow clinics are designed for blue zone and above skiers. The resort’s professional coaching staff will guide you through arcing turns, gate training, ski-to-snow contact and a variety of other

We're sensing a theme here. First we had the Canadian Kootenay folks and their Ultimate Ski Bum contest. Upload a video -- why you're the world's number one ski bum -- and you could win three months of free skiing, catskiing and heliskiing in the along Canada's Powder Highway. (Yessir: three months. Free. We think you should enter.) Well, now you'

Folks, we've got another one. Opening day hit Mount Snow last Saturday, making it the first (and currently only) resort in Vermont to open for the 2009–10 ski season. Over 700 skiers -- and, y'know, boarders -- put wax to slope for the first time in too many months. But Snow had a bonus in store: All of its opening weekend revenue is going to be donated to the nearby
