Arizona Snowbowl Under Fire

Efforts to expand the Arizona Snowbowl resort near Flagstaff, Arizona, are under fire again; yesterday a suit was filed against the U.S. Forest Service by a group called the Save the Peaks Coalition. According to the Associated Press, the suit comes three months after the U.S. Supreme Court denied an appeal from American Indian tribes that said the use of treated wastewater to make artificial snow threatened the tribes' religious and cultural survival. Monday's suit alleges the Forest Service did not consider the human health risks of using treated water for snowmaking. Snowbowl's expansion is on a mountain that the tribes consider sacred.
