Mark Alan Dickson died this week after falling from a chairlift at Heavenly Mountain Resort

A man died this week after falling off a chairlift at Heavenly Mountain Resort, when an errant rope from a zip line tangled with his chair. Even worse news: He was riding the chair with his new wife; they were on their honeymoon. Mark Alan Dickson was 51. Sheriff's officials say Dickson's wife, Rebecca Gonzaga, did not fall but suffered a leg injury.

This is so sad to read about. This is such a terrible accident. I wonder if it could have been prevented.

This incident should alert everyone of the need to lower the safety bar on the chair. Many people claim they wear helmets for safety reasons, but they don't seem to be at all concerned about the rest of their body when they ride the chairlift.

Falling off a chairlift means certain injury, and potential death, ... and yet people hardly ever lower the safety bar, and if you ask them nicely, they do so only begrudgingly.  And then they are also very impatient to remove the bar long before the chair has approached the unloading station.

Sitting unprotected on a chair is like playing dice with your life. Even a helmet won't protect you from a broken neck or broken bones if you fall off the chair.

That is a very unfortunate turn of events. It goes to show that life's unexpected twists and turns can happen to anyone. Nonetheless, we all need to live life to the fullest.
