Mount Snow Is Open

Folks, we've got another one. Opening day hit Mount Snow last Saturday, making it the first (and currently only) resort in Vermont to open for the 2009–10 ski season. Over 700 skiers -- and, y'know, boarders -- put wax to slope for the first time in too many months. But Snow had a bonus in store: All of its opening weekend revenue is going to be donated to the nearby Deerfield Valley Food Pantry. Attendees could pay $10 or bring 10 nonperishable food items in exchange for a lift ticket, and the resort took in $5,000 and over 1,500 food items for charity. It's not every day we as skiers can enjoy our sport and give back -- let's hope for more days like this one.
