No Comeback for Hermann Maier
Well that didn't take long. One of ski racing's most anticipated comebacks is coming to an end -- even if the anticipation lasted a mere week. After announcing his return to ski racing on October 6th, Austrian god Hermann Maier has changed his mind and will stay in retirement. Maier, a four-time World Cup champion, four-time Olympic medalist and winner of 54 World Cup races, had stepped aside last season to undergo minor surgery on his knee; he then crashed his bicycle and hurt his leg. The champ had planned to return to the circuit next month, at the Lake Louise stop of the tour, but, he told reporters gathered at a press conference in Vienna while fighting back tears, "I just felt that it was time to retire as I felt fully healthy again."
