Early-season records for opening day are being set left and right

Is this the start of a banner year or what? Colorado's Arapahoe Basin opened last week, earlier than it ever has, and Loveland had its earliest season opening in 40 years. Even Las Vegas's local hill opened a full seven weeks ahead of schedule. And now the East and West Coasts are getting in on the action. Maine's Sunday River opened yesterday, two weeks earlier than its last two openings -- each of which was the first in the East that year. A cold fall has lent itself well to snowmaking, and an additional three inches of the natural stuff fell on October 13, making enough of a base to open the upper portions of Locke Mountain. Tickets are discounted to $25 for all ages; terrain will remain open through Sunday, before closing midweek for more rounds under the snowguns -- and, hopefully, more real snow from Mother Nature. Speaking of MN, she dumped two feet of snow at Mammoth Mountain, California's Main Lodge the other day, along with 4 to 6 feet at the peak. All the early snow means Mammoth, too, is opening earlier -- this Friday -- four weeks ahead of schedule. Guests can ski or snowboard all day Friday, with the Broadway Express opening at 8:30 sharp. Cross your fingers that this is just a beginning of a truly massive season.

It was an overwhelming opening day at Mammoth Mountain, it was something almost unreal, and yes, many people were very overexcited about the event. The slashing turns and riding park in early November.Regards Kate from .essay service.

It was great day at Mammoth. Checkout pics and the story on Mammoth's blog:

Congrates for opening first this year, but I must make a correction.   The first ski resorts to open in the East are normally in North Carolina.   Last year, Catalochee Ski Mtn. opened first on the east coast (week before Halloween).   It was among the first in the nation last year.    And I believe Sugar Mountain in North Carolina opened first in the East (2007-2008) on November 1st.   I know theses are not large resorts, but first is first, and they try each year to be first in the EAST!!   In any event, I hope and pray that Old Man Winter dumps plenty of snow from coast to coast and north to south.
