The Herminator Is Back

Austria's ski-racer god Hermann Maier returns to the slopes this season
Move over, Lance Armstrong. The comeback king of skiing is planning yet another return: Austrian Hermann Maier has resumed training for a run at the 2010 World Cup after a killer knee injury sidelined him last March. Maier plans to miss the season's first few races but return by the end of November, at the Cup's Lake Louise stop. This isn't the 36-year-old Austrian's first return to the sport: In 2001, a motorcycle accident nearly killed him; doctors were considering amputating one of his legs. But after intense reconstructive surgery Maier returned to the hill just 17 months later, stomping out a Kitzbuhl super G win in January 2003. The 2010 ski racing season just got a little more intense.
