Westin Riverfront is Colorado's First Silver LEED-Certified Hotel
The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa, connected to the slopes of Beaver Creek by the Riverfront Express gondola, has an impressive new notch in its belt: Silver LEED status, which has been awarded to only nine hotels in the U.S. It requires a property to achieve a high level of environmental sustainability in both their building practices and operating procedures. Among the accolades are that 50 percent of the hotel's power comes from renewable sources, including wind; a heating/cooling system that can be controlled by the front desk, ensuring no needless energy is wasted on unoccupied guest rooms; and that 10 percent of the building materials are made from recycled content. A Green Package celebrating the hotel's new status offers a night in a studio suite, carbon credits to offset emissions from your travels, and complimentary valet parking for guests arriving with more than two people in the car or for those driving a hybrid vehicle. Rates are $149 per night during the off season, $319 during ski season. Buy here.
