Frequent Skier Card offers deals at three New England resorts, plus a few other Boyne-owned mountains

With the economy still yard-saling down the mountain of life -- err, or something like that -- we're seeing a lot of new takes on the traditional lift-pass and season-pass protocols. We've already told you about Mt. Bachelor, Oregon's sliding-scale pass pricing, where you'll pay less to ski through sleet than you would to ski in sun. Then there's Vail's Pass Insurance program, which for an extra $20 allows you to return your pass if you suffer severe economic loss, like a lost job or big medical bills. Now Boyne Resorts is getting in on the game with its Frequent Skier Card. Cough up $89 and get one lift pass for Loon Mountain, N.H., Sunday River or Sugarloaf, Maine; then use the card for $25 discounts on midweek lift tickets and $15 on weekend tickets. With one-day passes at Sunday River already $74, the extra $15 you spend on the card will pay itself off in no time. You'll also get discounts at other Boyne resorts, like Montana's Big Sky
