A new study points to a 160 percent increase in hot tub accidents

Everybody loves a good hot tub. Skiers in particular love a good hot tub. But beneath all that steamy goodness lurks real danger. A new study, published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, found that emergency room visits sustained in hot tubs whirlpools or spas more than doubled from 1990 to 2007. Most of the injuries were slips and falls; overexposure to heat was another big culprit. Scary stuff. To best protect our readers, SKI Magazine staff will be conducting a nationwide hot tub inspection service. Interested parties should send an email to SkiMagazineHotTubParty@skimag.com with addresses and driving directions to suspect hot tubs. Just leave the cover on and the temperature around 104 degrees, and please include a detailed map to any nearby beer coolers.
