It's Official: Ladies Can't Jump in 2010
Not that we're surprised, but we are a bit saddened to learn that there will indeed be no women's nordic jump event in the 2010 Winter Olympics. On Friday, the British Columbia Court of Appeal has dismissed a case brought by women jumpers seeking a last-minute entry into the Games; a written explanation of the court's reasoning is due next week. As we reported earlier, ski jumping is restricted to men in the Olympics -- the only winter sport with such a restriction -- and a group of professional female ski jumpers had sought to change that in Canadian courts, claiming the rule amounts to gender discrimination. Last summer a lower court effectively ruled that such laws had no jurisdiction over the International Olympic Committee, hence the women's appeal.

It'll be interesting to hear the reasoning behind this one... Sounds pretty discriminatory from here.... Maybe they'll claim the short-notice? Hopefully it'll at least lay some ground work to get them in for '14!
