Daron Rahlves crashes at the X Games Ski Cross quarterfinals
As he attempted to pass another competitor in the tricky rhythm section of the X Games ski cross course Sunday, 2010 Olympic medal hopeful Daron Rahlves crashed hard, potentially ending his season. Rahlves was taken off the course in a sled and immediately transferred to Aspen Valley Hospital, where initial reports indicate he suffered a dislocated right hip and a potential concussion. Rahlves, who won just about everything but an Olympic medal in his impressive alpine racing career, made the switch to ski cross several years ago and is America's top hope to win a medal in the event when it debuts in the Winter Olympics in February. According to Rahlves's family, this is the fourth time he's dislocated that hip, and within a couple hours of the accident, he was said to be up and weight-bearing. Doctors say he'll be released from the hospital before the end of the day Sunday. His family says they're still hopeful he'll be able to compete in Whistler.
