Compete for a cause or eat birthday cake with a bear

You didn't make it to the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver but you still want to get your slalom on.

Why not do it at Sugar Mountain Resort next Sunday, March 7? The Richard Trundy Memorial Sugar Cup Giant Slalom Competition honors Sugar Mountain's former Director of Operations, Dick Trundy, who passed away from cancer in February 2002. Since his death, 100% of the entry fees from the Sugar Cup Competition (which began in 1987) have been  donated to the American Cancer Society in Trundy's memory.

The event is open to intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders. Registration is from 7:30 am until 8:30 am and competition will at 9:00 am on the Big Red Slope. The entry fee is $15.00 and participant lift tickets are $25.00. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in 13 categories from four and under to 60 and over.

Even if your kids aren't the competing kind, bring them along anyway, as March 7 is also Sugar Mountain's Sugar Bear Birthday Celebration. Kids can join Sugar Mountain's resident mascot Sugar Bear and his friends for a fun birthday celebration that includes a magic show, cake and ice cream and the Great Bear Race.

For more information about either event, please call 800-SUGAR-MT or visit www.skisugar.com.
