Aspen Fashion Week Ushers In Spring With Style
Stilettos trounced ski boots as the footwear of choice in Aspen this week as fashionistas (primed with flutes of Veuve Clicquot) fawned over runway models in the latest styles from top ski-world designers. In its second year, Aspen Fashion Week was schemed up by founder/Aspenite Lisa Johnson to showcase the best of winter luxury, ski and technical designers and manufacturers. Along the way, it's turned into a high-profile party, with local shops, bars, galleries and other venues holding après-ski fashion shows to benefit concerts—including one this year by The Fugees’ John Forté at BellyUp—hosted by the non-profit FEED Foundation. A hands-down hit of the week was a Tacos & Tequila party at the new Marmot Concept Aspen store. A Mariachi band and a street-side taco bar by hotshot caterer Randy Placeres drew an enthusiastic crowd. Inside, the store flooded with shoppers checking out this season’s goods, which Karen Smith, Marmot's Director of Business Development, touted as technical, fashionable and uniquely athlete-inspired. Friday, as if on cue, a spring storm dumped eight-plus inches of pow on the slopes —the perfect backdrop for an asprés-ski fashion show finale at the Viceroy Snowmass, the new hipster hangout in the Snowmass base village. Ski boots and Stoli were the accessories du jour. Click here to see more images from the week.
