Spring Skiing: It's Coming
Folks, the Olympics are over, March is officially upon us, and spring skiing is just around the corner. That means one thing: It's goggle-tan time. Sure, high-siders like Colorado's Arapahoe Basin and California's Mammoth Mountain will stay open nearly into summer (or in A-Basin's case, Independence Day), but how many days do you really have left to go skiing this season? Colorado's little Powderhorn Resort has put up their Top 10 list of reasons to love spring skiing -- corn snow, pond skimming -- but they left out our biggest fave: the parking lot "beaches" that sprout around this time of year, full of folks a little less concerned with the snow than they are with the temperature of their barbecue coals. Beaches, beers on the sundeck -- spring is the perfect melding of sun and snow. The college kids can have their sunny Spring Break beaches of Ft. lauderdale and Mazatlan; we'll take the sunny slopes of spots like Powderhorn.
