New steel stairs and bridge open up Gold Hill terrain in Telluride.

Forget the chairlift. Climb your way to great skiing.

Following in the footsteps of Chamonix, France, Telluride, Colo., has opened a new steel staircase and bridge on Gold Hill, easing access to its famed inbound skiing. As of last Sunday, skiers can hike from the top of Revelation lift (about 10 minutes) to the 24-foot bridge and newly airlifted staircases located between Gold Hill Chutes 8 and 9. The two staircases provide direct access to Gold Hill 9; skiers can traverse over to Gold Hill 10. The two sets of stairs measure approximately 50 feet each, and weigh in at roughly 3,300 pounds. The bridge and stairway are 30 inches wide, and feature hand railings and grated-steel walking surfaces. This all adds up to a plush new 126-foot pathway up Gold Hill.

Now, if skiing down could only be as easily as walking up. For more information, click here.
