The Wildflower Capital of Colorado, Crested Butte, hosts the Wildflower Festival. Here's information on hikes, 4x4 rides and tons of great scenery.

The 24th annual Wildflower Festival comes to the designated "Wildflower Capital of Colorado," Crested Butte, July 12-18.

Every year, visitors, photographers and visual artists travel to Crested Butte to see the explosion of color during the festival and the weeks surrounding. Glacier lilies are among the first wildflowers to appear, usually in May, literally forcing their way through the snow. By mid-July, the entire mountain is painted with the floral display.

More than 85 hikes are scheduled for the festival for all levels of strength, fitness and know-how, including 32 walks for those coming from lower elevations. For those unable to walk, there will be van and 4x4 tours to let everyone enjoy the colorful mountain scenery.

There will also be photography classes, and even two overnight camping trips to teach about getting into position for shooting sunsets and sunrises.

Also new this year: Kid-specific classes for hiking, doing art projects and learning about wildflower identification.

There will be a yoga class to help you relax and find your center -- in the middle of a field of wildflowers.

The Wildflower Festival is a great way to reconnect with family and friends over a long weekend and take in some of Colorado's most picturesque views.
