Salomon athletes Townsend and Douglas notch first descents on Maui breakers—and almost look good doing it.

Skiers have long wondered what to do with themselves in the summer months. Well, this caught our eye.

Cody Townsend and Mike Douglas (the, uh, “godfather of freeskiing”) have combined their loves and skiing and surfing to create something altogether new: wave-skiing. Makes you wonder why no one’s ever tried it before.

It’s weird to see these two accomplished big-mountain rippers skiing like a couple of gapers on the groomed, but it sure looks like fun. Will it catch on? Maybe among the rich (and/or sponsored), since you need a Jetski to tow you into every wave. Anyway, it’s fun to watch. See what you think:
