Hood to Coast
A new film looks inside the minds of the people who take on this weekend’s Hood to Coast relay.

This weekend is the running of the 29th annual Hood to Coast relay. The course runs from Timberline Lodge, 6,000 feet high on the top of Mt. Hood, through Portland, to the beach in Seaside, Oregon.

The course is notorious for it’s difficulty, during some of the legs of the relay racers face grueling downhills, leg-zapping heat, and midnight runs through technical terrain, but it’s also known for wide variety of runners who race. It’s a circus that attracts everyone from out of shape computer geeks to elite, Nike-sponsored racers.

Film for Thought Inc., a production company lead by runner Christoph Baaden, filmed four very different teams over the course of the weekend-long relay. Their film, “Hood to Coast” debuted at this year’s South by Southwest festival, and will be playing across the country this fall.

Here is the trailer. Even if you’re not planning to run down Mt. Hood this weekend it’s a pretty cool look inside the minds of the people who will be on the starting line Friday morning.
