Marker kastle binding recall

Marker and Kastle issued voluntary recalls for a handful of bindings due to a defect that could cause the skier to fall - though no injuries have been reported.

“Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed,” according to a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission press release.

The recall, which affects about 5,400 units, includes 2010-11 Marker and Kastle Twin Cam bindings with a max DIN setting of 12. Steel springs in the heel pieces could break and cause injuries.

Patagonia Snowshot
There's nothing we like more than a tricked-out jacket. One that looks good, too? Even better.

Holiday shopping can be toughest when hunting for brothers and dads. Cozy sweaters for mom, new boots for sisters, but the men in my life always seem to get books and music. The Patagonia Snowshot jacket erases those shopping-list blues. It's notable first for it's bright colors (blue, red), but really earns it's stripes when it comes to technology.

2011 Rossignol S110W
Rossi unveils the S110W Freeski, one of the first women’s skis with rocker and reverse sidecut.
Rossi was among the first to incorporate rocker into a women’s ski (Voodoo Pro BC110). Now it unveils the S110W Freeski, one of the first women’s skis with rocker and reverse sidecut. Hence its funny shape: The tapered tip and tail smear better in the deep. With roughly the same dynamics as the hugely popular S7 (No. 1 in Men’s Deep Snow), the S110W is not built for versatility; it’s built to float effortlessly through feet of velvety powder, where it handles speed so well you hardly notice the trees are a blur. For deep-snow purists, it can’t be beat (No. 1 in Overall Impression).

Mammut Pulse Barryvox
A revolution in beacon technology, the Pulse gives you the ability to perform pre-search triage and find multiple buried victims quickly.

Editors note: Avalanche beacons are one of the most important factors when it comes to surviving an avalanche. Combined with a shovel, probe, skills to use this device, and knowledge of backcountry terrian, a beacon is crucial. Take an avalanche course before heading into dangerous terrain.

Line Prophet 115
The Line Prophet 115 fills a void previously left in the Prophet series. It's super fat, but still carves.
Line has seen immense success from their versatile Prophet series, with widths ranging from 90 mm to 130mm. Previously, the width options jumped from 100- 130mm underfoot, which left a big gap. Enter the Prophet 115. With P-cut technology, this ski seamlessly travels from groomers to powder. Early rise tip and tail allow easy turn initiation (read: they’re easier to ski), and help you float when it’s deep. A metal-structured core adds strength and stability.

Chanel Skis
When a fashion brand comes out with a ski, we're always interested to check it out. But these pricey Chanel skis, made from rosewood, fiberglass, and aluminum, might just be a little over the top. Here's what we'd tell Chanel if they asked for our opinion.

Patagonia Catalogue
What piece of gear are you investing in this year?

Ahh, catalog time. We don't know about you, but around this time of year we get a catalog fixation. All that new gear, all those pages of shiny photographs arriving in the mailbox—catalogs are one of the many crutches we rely upon to get us from this time of year (Indian summer, light fleece) to that time of year (powder Tuesdays, the full puffy).

Panasonic GF1
The latest—and pretty greatest—example of point-and-shoot-size cameras with SLR-quality lenses

Trust us: Your camera phone is no way to capture that epic powder swoosh you're about to lay down in China Bowl. But "real" cameras -- high-quality SLRs with their deep resolution and arrays of shot-specific lenses -- can be bulky and a pain to hump around the mountain. Until now. Panasonic's new GF1 is the latest -- and pretty greatest -- entry in the Micro Four Thirds category of cameras.
