Grand Targhee, Wyoming
We know, Wyoming’s Grand Targhee (a.k.a. Grand Fog-ee) always seems to get the love. But this hometown hill just got 21 inches in 24 hours—and has blue skies to boot. Can you blame us?

Snowsports Graph
The Snowsports Industries America has released details on the number of people participating in winter sports like skiing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. And despite the poor economy, guess what? More people skied in the winter of 2008-2009 than the previous two years. And believe it or not, snowshoeing is on a rocket-like increase.

According to the Snowsports Industries America, more people participated in snowsports in the winter of 2008-2009 than the previous two years. "Despite a very tough economic climate, new participants could be found on slopes, trails and in the terrain parks last season. Participation increased in every snow sports discipline during the 2008-09 season from downhill skiing to snowshoeing," the SIA report states. In 2008-09, a reported 10,919,000 people participated in alpine skiing, up 5.5 percent from the winter of 2007-08.

Julia Mancuso
Which begs the question: Is the three-time Olympic medalist simply the best female skier there is?

Do racers make the best free-skiers? It’s an age-old argument, and Julia Mancuso makes a compelling case that it’s true. Fresh off her two-medal performance on the Olympic tracks at Whistler, Mancuso entered the Nissan Xtreme competition at Verbier, Switzerland, last weekend—the culmination of the Freeride World Tour—and her result was an astounding third place.

When Banff-Lake Louise—a ski epicenter in Alberta, Canada—announced the winner of their Banff's Next Top Model competition, we were expecting a Lange Girl-style portrait. Instead, we found out the winner is three-year-old Julia Bell, a Canadian youngster who apparently loves to ski. Check out the behind-the-scenes video of the competition here.

Models strut their stuff on Aspen's other catwalk
Aspen has always been the center of the ski-fashion world. But in case there was ever any doubt, the second annual Aspen Fashion Week sets the record straight.

Stilettos trounced ski boots as the footwear of choice in Aspen this week as fashionistas (primed with flutes of Veuve Clicquot) fawned over runway models in the latest styles from top ski-world designers. In its second year, Aspen Fashion Week was schemed up by founder/Aspenite Lisa Johnson to showcase the best of winter luxury, ski and technical designers and manufacturers.

colorado landscape
A recent Gallup Poll proves once again what Coloradans have known for a long time: when it comes to fitness, the West is the best.

Not surprisingly, four Colorado locales top the list of the "Ten Fittest Cities" in the United States according to a recent Gallup poll: Fort Collins/Loveland, Denver, Colorado Springs, and Boulder. California tied Colorado with four fit metropolitan areas: San Luis Obispo/Paso Robles, Santa Cruz/Watsonville, San Jose/Sunnyvale/Santa Clara, and San Francisco/Oakland/Fremont. On the East Coast, Bridgeport/Stamford/Norwalk, CT and Barnstable Town, MA took the prize.

lindsey, red bull hat
Could Lindsey Vonn be the new face of professional sports? And she's not done for the season: Though Vonn crashed in today's GS race in Germany, she could win her record third-straight overall World Cup title with a top-seven finish in Friday's super G.

Unless you are a ski racing fan, chances are you had never even heard of Lindsey Vonn until two months ago. Today, as Lindsey’s stylish, well-coifed marketing machine rolls across network airtime, other Olympians can only hold up their hands in surrender.
