Especially when you have fresh snow overnight and awake to clear, sun-filled skies. Bluebird days graced the annual Adaptive Ski Festival. I wasn't sure what to expect from my first experience skiing in the Southern Hemisphere.

UPDATE (8.6.2010) During his attempt to summit and ski K2, the world’s second tallest mountain, 31-year-old mountaineer, Frederik Ericsson was killed around 7:30 a.m. Pakistani time on Friday, August 6.

One woman’s mammoth ski mission starts at Mammoth.

The last day of an extra long winter for Mammoth Mountain, first day of a year-long winter for me. I’m kicking off my global skiathon to benefit disabled sports organizations around the world. I aim to increase exposure, raise awareness and funding for adaptive ski programs through my efforts. Every cent donated will go directly to the organizations, and I plan to add to the list as I travel, helping the local mountain programs wherever I go.

Are they the future?

Our sister magazine, Skiing, launched the demo of their new digital product, Skiing Interactive, yesterday.  Designed to be fully interactive, and to encorporate multiple media, the demo highlighted personalized gear finders, video content and interactive maps.  According to Tom James, the magazine's editorial director, "Skiing Interactive concentrates on new methods for telling stories while involving the user with info-graphics, interactive maps, dynamically controlled imagery and more.”
