East Burke, VT, Nov. 3, 2000--Burke Mountain is fighting to open for the 2000-2001 ski season. At the beginning of October, Burke 2000 LLC, a limited liabilities company formed by burke Mountain Academy (BMA), acquired the rights to purchase The Burke Mountain Ski Area through an auction. The academy formed the company to insure operation of the training hill, which is vital to the BMA mission and to its students.

Dick Andross, Burke Mountain general manager, focuses on "serving the community," a sentiment fueling local support for Burke. Burke now asks for community support by aiming to sell 1,570 passes by Nov. 14, double last year's total, in order to guarantee full operation of the mountain. BMA Headmaster, Kirk Dwyer, remains optimistic that sales will continue and the mountain will open.

The Burke Mountain Combo Pass starting at $199 should excite local support if the desire to sustain a regional fixture is not enough. The pass is also valid all season at Jay Peak, NH and Bretton Woods, NH with three free ski days at Cannon Mountain, NH and the option to buy additional tickets at half the daily price.

The effort to open Burke will climax this weekend at Burke's annual ski swap and a very meaningful Rally 'Round the Mountain. The rally takes place on Nov. 4 and the swap continues through Nov. 5th. Special attractions include informational exhibits, door prizes, and free food by the St. Johnsbury Academy Culinary Arts Department. Julie Parisien and other alumni of BMA will be in attendance, as well as Vermont Governor, Howard Dean.

Dick Andross assures, "We can accommodate everyone and hope that everyone shows up to support the efforts to open the mountain. It promises to be a huge party, but a party with a very special purpose."

Burke Mountain Combo Passes will be sold at the Nov. 4th Rally. They are also available at St. Johnsbury, East Burke, and Lyndonville locations, or by calling 802-626-3322, or online at https://www.skiburke.com/website.html.
