Mt. Bachelor is one of the few areas where summer visitors can ski all morning and golf in the afternoon. Even if you don't want to ski, hop the Pine Marten Express lift up Mt. Bachelor for the sightseeing, hiking and biking; then grab a bite at Scapolo's or the Mile High BBQ located in the moutaintop Pine Marten Lodge.

There are plenty of other ways to spend the afternoon if you don't golf. Hikers and bikers rush to the more than 500 miles of lush, green trails found in the Three Sisters Wilderness and the Des-chutes National Forest. Water enthusiasts take their pick of the countless lakes and rivers to raft, kayak, canoe or fish. Climbers revel in the hundreds of routes at Smith Rock State Park. And sightseers drive to the summit of McKenzie Pass and the Dee Wright Memorial on the Cascade Lakes Highway to see spectacular lava flows and panoramic views of the Cascades.

At night, head 21 miles west to Bend, where your options multiply. Drake Park hosts concerts and performances throughout summer. Or you can simply meander through the many galleries or take in a movie. There's also a pretty thriving party scene, but odds are you'll be too tired to do much damage.

  • •DON'T MISS Take in the majestic sights of the Three Sisters, Broken Top and alpine vistas with a sunset dinner at midmountain Scapolo's Italian Bistro.
  • •BEST DEAL Three nights in a condo, two rounds of golf or a full-day guided hiking tour, plus an all-day river rafting trip. Rates start at $390 per person, double occupancy. 800-452-9846; mtbachelorvillage.com
