Getting There From New York City (4 hours): Take I-87 to Exit 23 (Warrensburg), then Route 9 for 4 miles, then Route 28 for 16 miles to North Creek. From Boston (4.5 hours): Take the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) to Albany, N.Y., then I-87 north to Exit 23; from there, see above.

What's New Addition of a black-diamond run, Double Barrel, on the Straightbrook Quad liftline; widening of the intermediate Foxlair run on Bear Mountain; remodeling of the Tannery Pub and Restaurant, with better views of the mountain and new booths made from vintage cabins of the old Red Gondola; ski-school conveyor lift; terrain park and big-air kicker.
Dining Out On a Budget: On Route 28, Casey's North (518-251-5836) offers respectable après-ski fare and a humongous bar, while the Riverwood Restaurant & Tavern (518-251-2798) offers an ambitious Mexican menu. In downtown North Creek, there's affordable Italian fare at The Whistle Stop (518-251-3007). Money Is No Object: The class act in town is The Gardens at the Copperfield Inn (518-251-2500), with rustic-gourmet fare such as "Adirondack Surf & Turf" (venison and rainbow trout).
Sleeping In Affordable lodging dominates in North Creek. Good bets: the Valhaus Motel (518-251-2700) and Alpen Dorf Chalets (518-251-2112). The Goose Pond Inn (518-251-3434) is one of the few B&Bs in the vicinity. For those not on a budget, the Copperfield Inn (518-251-2500) includes a health club and other refined amenities.
Diversions North Creek's Main Street will not be mistaken for Aspen's retail core, but gear junkies find both entertainment and equipment at The Mountain & Boardertown sports shop (518-251-3111), which includes a climbing wall and an in-store special-effects "rainstorm" that's ready for Broadway. There's world-class cross-country skiing at Garnet Hill Lodge (518-251-2150) and snowshoeing at Cunningham's Ski Barn (518-251-3215). For those ready to take a day off from skiing, Glens Falls' Hyde Collection Art Museum and a ton of outlet stores are an hour away.
A Good Deal All of Gore's multiday lift tickets (including season passes) are also valid at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, 90 minutes away.
