Whiteface Mt to open this weekend; earliest skiing and riding in its historyReduced rates of $30 and $15 in effect
WILMINGTON, N.Y. — The Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA), operators of Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, announced Tuesday that the resort will open for skiing and riding Nov. 9-10.
This marks, by one day, the earliest opening in Whiteface history. The venue opened Nov. 10 to begin the 1990-91 winter. Based on upcoming weather, Whiteface may commence the season with weekend operation before running full-time later this month.
There will be intermediate boarding and skiing Saturday and Sunday from the summit of Little Whiteface. No expert terrain will be open.
Whiteface will offer reduced rates this weekend. An adult lift ticket will be priced at $30 and juniors at $15.
"After the hot summer we had, who would have thought that winter would hit so soon, said Whiteface Mountain Manager Jay Rand. "But our staff is happy it has, and from the comments we've been hearing, our guests will be happy to hear this news too.
Weekend guests can ride the Cloudsplitter gondola to the summit of Little Whiteface and cruise the Excelsior trail to Broadway and the mid-station. >From there, patrons can hop aboard the Little Whiteface double chair back to Excelsior.
Management hopes to open Lower Valley and the beginner's Mixing Bowl for top to bottom service. If not, skiers and snowboarders can return to the base by downloading from the gondola.
