GIRDWOOD, AK — (Alyeska Resort Press Release) - It has been a busy 75 days since John Byrne III purchased Alyeska Resort. Saturday night, Mr. Byrne unveiled his plans for the future expansion of Alyeska Resort at the annual Girdwood 2020 dinner.

Mr. Byrne and his management team have spent every waking moment working with the product from snowmaking and snow safety crews getting the resort open to working through each and every restaurant menu item. Mr. Byrne realized early on from a planning point of view there are two main objectives, to make over the existing Alyeska Resort master plan, and to develop a conceptual master plan for expansion into Winner Creek. "Each objective with the goal of transforming Girdwood into the four season resort we all believe it is capable of, comments Mr. Byrne.

In an effort to move these tasks along expeditiously Mr. Byrne has put together a separate team to tackle each task. In respect to the existing resort Mr. Byrne has engaged Stantec Corporation and their lead resort planner Bruce Erickson. Mr. Erickson plans to integrate a village setting with beginner and intermediate slopes, upgrade chair lifts, create a setting for downhill racing, nordic tracks, kids, and disabled programs. All of this while maintaining the environmental values, sustainability and community responsibilities in Girdwood.

The second task is the fantastic opportunity Winner Creek presents. Mr. Byrne explains, "Our plan is to have a conceptual master plan on the Mayors desk no later than early September as well as a draft development agreement which if executed I will be prepared to fund. Mr. Byrne along with his team intend to diligently pursue the execution of the development plan prior to the end of 2007 addressing some of community needs such as a High School, affordable housing, summer mountain biking, a summer music venue and more attractions and amenities for the hotel. Mr. Byrne's team includes, Don McLean, V.P. of Alyeska Resort and Director of Real Estate, Rich Eidem V.P. of Alyeska Resort and Owner Representative, and Mark Weakland Managing Director at Alyeska resort who brings over 20 years of resort lodging management experience. "This will help transition Girdwood into the four season resort we all envision it to be, concludes Mr. Byrne.
