Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany Jan. 27, 2002 (USSA)--Rain put a halt to the last pre-Olympic World Cup super G Sunday, so Austrian Stephan Eberharter, the World Cup leader who has filled in admirably for the absent Hermann Maier, collected his third SG win of the season, the 13th victory of his career, by two-hundredths of a second. Daron Rahlves (Sugar Bowl, CA), the lone American to race in the second of two SGs in Garmisch, was 11th.

The U.S. Olympic Alpine Team will be announced Monday. Outdoor Life Network will carry coverage of the super Gs Monday and Thursday nights at 9 EST.

Eberharter, who has been the World Cup leader for nearly two months, won in 1:22.11 nipped Swiss racer Didier Cuche, who has been top-5 all season, was runnerup in 1:22.13 with Andreas Schifferer of Austria third (1:22.30).Rahlves finished in 1:23.45.

The race was stopped after 35 racers because of the increasing rain, then two more racers went before organizers -- still mindful of Austrian world champion Uli Meier's death in a women's downhill in Garmisch shortly before the 1994 Olympics -- stopped the race because of unsafe conditions and let the results stand.

The men's tour on the Cafe de Colombia World Cup heads to St. Moritz, Switzerland, for a downhill and giant slalom Feb. 2-3, the final races before Olympic Winter Games XIX begin in Utah.
