The flagship of the Boyne empire had been troubled recently with construction delays on its new spa hotel, but now construction has moved ahead, and the new hotel is slated to open late this winter. "My family always has Boyne Mountain at the top of our list," says a reader. Why not, with more than 60 ski runs and 10 chairlifts, including the six-seat, high-speed Mountain Express, it's still a Midwest classic. As another reader so aptly puts it, "This storied, old resort seems on the verge of a new revolution."

The Latest Mountain Grand Lodge & Spa to open late winter, reservations now being accepted; additional glade skiing terrain; Hemlock's Eagles Nest Restaurant has been renovated.

The Deal Boyne's frequent skier/rider card for only $50. Cardholder receives $10 off each lift ticket purchase all season and free skiing/riding Jan. 3-7. boyne.com; 1-800-GO-BOYNE.
