Killington, VT, Nov. 6, 2001--For the 41st consecutive season, this morning Killington Resort became the first resort to open in the East for skiing and riding for the 2001-2002 season. Last night, Killington snowmakers were stationed at the helm of the most extensive snowmaking system in North America, preparing for today's opening on the Rime trail in the Glades area off Killington Peak. Approximately 2-4 inches of natural snow from yesterday's storm helped the opening day cause as well.

"We're looking forward to another long, snow-filled season," said Allen Wilson, Killington president. "A 30 percent increase in snowmaking capacity plus more than 315 inches of natural snowfall we had last season left some lasting memories in our guests' minds about reliable snow surfaces at Killington-we hope to continue that momentum this season."

"Whether it's the first run of the season in October or the one hundredth run mid-winter, we want the snow quality to be enjoyable for our guests. We also monitor long-range forecasts for warming trends. When we officially open for the season, we want to stay open at least through Memorial Day and sometimes right into June," said snow surface manager Dave Lacombe.

Terrain today will be for upper intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. Guests will access terrain via a truck ride to the Canyon Quad chairlift and then Glades Triple chairlift. Killington will open at 10 a.m. and tickets are $25/person.

Early season ski and stay packages are available from $57 per person per day and including lodging and lift ticket. A two-night minimum is required. For more information or to make a reservation, book online at killington.com.
