Famous last words in Taos: "Let's take a break for a Spaten." Two hours later, plan to be five beers deep and only halfway down the hill. The fact that you can warm up by the Bavarian tile oven inside (or the sun deck on a nice day) won't push you out of there any faster. Fortunately, there's plenty of authentic comfort food on hand to soak up the suds. And to get to the base, you can take a cat-track. Perfect.
