Country Estate

So. Londonderry, Vt.
This Vermont estate was once a working dairy farm and wonderfully maintains that character. It encompasses 100 acres, a 9,800-square-foot house, a restored three-bedroom 18th-century farmhouse and a dairy barn. The main house's appeal is unmatched. Built from two post-and-beam barns (circa 1775), the stage is set with wide floorboards, barn-board paneling, exposed framing and metal roofing. The 15-room residence has seven bedrooms, and six full and three half baths. But personality is not sacrificed for size. A dramatic brick archway leads to three bedrooms, each with stall doors opening to the hallway and paddock doors opening to the patio. The great room is highlighted by picture windows, a floor-to-ceiling fieldstone fireplace, a stone-slab bar and 30-foot ceilings crowned by a cupola. The mud room evokes a distinct milk house theme with two antique milking machines and a chandelier made from milk bottles. Maple trees, stone walls and a large pond punctuate the property.

PROS The property enjoys end-of-the-road privacy and abuts thousands of acres of Green Mountain National Forest.
CONS This property is far too beautiful to sit dormant as a second home.
