The indie uprising is mostly a U.S.-driven phenomenon, but it’s vigorous in Canada as well. B.C.-based G3 (or Genuine Guide Gear) began life as a backcountry-accessories company but soon added skis to its line of shovels, probes, and bindings. Naturally, G3 makes some lightweight, tour-friendly models, but it’s not just a backcountry brand anymore. Testers were favorably impressed by the performance of its 2013 freeride offerings.
Origin: Vancouver, B.C.
Ski Shown: Empire
G3’s fattest ski is a powder purist, with full-length rocker and a float-ready width.
