Lee Kinney started the Custom Foot in 1987 after more than a decade of working in the outdoor industry. His concept was to provide the client with a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and work as much as possible by appointment in order to provide time for personal attention to detail. Kinney's expressed goal is to determine the client’s needs and fit a boot that provides both comfort and performance. While Kinney's fitting background was originally in hiking, mountaineering, running, and Nordic skiing, his skill-set has suited him well in Alpine markets where he does most of his work today. The Custom Foot sells a range of boot brands, including DaleBoot, and is a Fischer Vacuum boot location. They also sell foam-injected, heat-moldable thermofoam, and ZipFit liners.
